Our Take on The Santo Mauro Hotel Madrid Decor

Stepping into the Hotel Santo Mauro in Madrid feels like walking into a refined conversation between history and contemporary design. Once a noble residence, today it’s one of the most stylish hotels in the Spanish capital—layered with rich colour, heritage architecture, and a quietly confident approach to interiors.

For us at PIERR Flowers, this visit was an inspiring exercise in observing how floristry, sustainability, and space design come together in luxury hospitality.

Part 1 · The Aesthetic

What stood out first was the harmony between the flowers and the architecture. Every bouquet felt designed for the room, not just placed in it. Tall, sculptural arrangements complemented the high ceilings, while lower ones framed intimate corners. The colours—soft greens, muted pinks, and earthy neutrals—picked up on the furniture's tones, creating a sense of effortless cohesion.

There’s a subtle but distinct “green freshness” running through the hotel: almost a jungle-chic influence, visible in the bathroom and dining spaces. Palms, monstera leaves, and trailing greens add softness and life to what could otherwise be quite formal interiors. The result is a balance between classic and modern—grand but relaxed.

One detail we loved: the miniature carnation vases on each dining table. Their dark pink hue echoed the surrounding decor beautifully, proving that scale matters in floral design. A small flower, thoughtfully placed, can have as much impact as a towering arrangement.

If there’s a gap, it’s that some salons and bedrooms lack floral touches. Even a single preserved stem or compact vase could add warmth and character. In hotels like Santo Mauro, florals are more than decoration—they’re a signal of care and ambience.

Part 2 · Sustainability

From a sustainability perspective, Santo Mauro gets it right in many ways. Their design team uses a clever mix of dried, preserved, and living plants—particularly in larger displays where longevity and texture shine. Dried eucalyptus, hydrangeas, and palms stand out for their structure and durability, adding organic rhythm without requiring constant upkeep.

The use of preserved florals shows thoughtful environmental consideration. These materials minimise waste, reduce water use, and align with the broader eco-commitments luxury hotels are increasingly prioritising.

Fresh flowers are still part of the palette—mainly the pink carnations. Traditionally a symbol of gratitude, they seem to have been chosen here for aesthetic rather than symbolic reasons. However, even these could be easily swapped for preserved alternatives to reduce replacements and maintenance time.

Overall, Santo Mauro demonstrates that sustainability and elegance can coexist. The hotel clearly strives to reduce its environmental footprint without compromising style—an approach that resonates with the future of luxury hospitality.

A Final Thought

At PIERR Flowers, we’re inspired by how the Santo Mauro Hotel bridges past and present through design. Its use of texture, proportion, and restraint mirrors what we believe great floral design should do: elevate atmosphere while respecting space.
